Salmon Arm Pride Project Arts & Awareness Festival

October in the Shuswap marks the fourth annual Salmon Arm Pride Project Arts & Awareness Festival. The events begin with the second Loud & Proud Celebration, an outdoor concert on Saturday October 14 from 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

The Loud and Proud Celebration is a street concert on Hudson Avenue in Downtown Salmon Arm, with musical guests Kimmortal The Artist and ournameisrich. Food trucks and Hudson Avenue restaurants are open for dinner, and the Salmon Arm Arts Centre is open until 10:00 pm with Pride Palace Pop-Up Shop inside. The evening wraps with a DJ dance party from 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

This arts-based festival features events on the 2023 theme of “We Have Always Been Here.” Focusing on art forms born of Queer culture, the events planned throughout the nine-day festival are open to the whole community to help build understanding, awareness and visibility of the 2SLGBTQ+ community.

The festival includes a zine-making workshop, stitch & b*tch knit nite, book tasting and author reading, gnome-painting workshop and a film night at the Salmon Arm Arts Centre. Intersection, a curated exhibition embracing lived experience, is currently underway providing a space for visual storytelling and illuminating ways of being and experiencing society when one identifies with multiple marginalized communities.

At Harpur Family Farm, the much anticipated and third annual Drag Night Out, presented by Nate Fadear in collaboration with the Salmon Arm Pride Project will be held on Friday, October 20 at 5:00 pm. Tickets at harpurfarm.ca.

Topping off over a week of events is the All Ages Drag Brunch, including drinks and breakfast. Freida Whales is back with a cast of amazing performers for this family-friendly celebration. Tickets at eventbrite.com
