Old or new, pick the right combo for you
The holiday season is a tapestry of beloved traditions and the promise of new surprises. In the Shuswap, there is no shortage of either. As a nod to both, we offer up a bit of history and a bit of news about seasonal happenings this month.
Armstrong
Hailed as a national treasure, Caravan Farm Theatre in Armstrong has been delighting people of all ages for 45 years. Located on an 80 acre farm, itself a key character in all productions, and featuring horse drawn wagons, they too beloved cast members, Caravan Farm Theatre has continues to produce, innovate and enrich familiar stories in their own way. This year’s production of The Nutcracker is now underway and some tickets are still available at caravanfarmtheatre.com.
Sicamous, Canoe, Salmon Arm and Notch Hill
Another beloved tradition is the now named CPKC Holiday Train. This year marks its 24th journey across the country raising food and funds for local non-profits in need. The Shuswap’s geographic location on CP’s mainline means that the Shuswap gets four stops: Sicamous, Canoe, Salmon Arm and Notch Hill. This year’s train will visit on December 15 starting at 5:15 in Sicamous and arriving at 9:30 in Notch Hill. Check the cpkcr.com/en website for details. Local road closures in effect.
Salmon Arm
New to the scene this season in downtown Salmon Arm, Curiosity Shop & Retro Haus Design is partnering with Chocolate with Geoseph for a chocolate art and vintage event on Saturday December 16 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. The licensed event will take place at the Curiosity Shop & Retro Haus Design shop in the alleyway west of the Pharmsave building. It promises to be a feast for the eyes and the palette.
On Friday, December 15, from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, paint the northern lights at Meikle Studios on Lakeshore Drive, providing a hand made treasure and personal tribute to our winter skies. Register online at meikle.studio.
